Ghost, by Charlie Chan Foon

This video filmed and directed by Charlie Chan Foon. I danced with Charlie in New Zealand. Alysia, the other girl in the video, Charlie, and myself were all in Dance and Technology together. We used each other for our projects.

Watch the video before reading the description below. Try to see if you can come up with your own interpretation of the video.

The Intent: Charlie didn't really know before editing this small dance video what he wanted the concept to be. Our teacher liked random, crazy, and unexplainable movements in our pieces. Hence why the first three videos on my blog are a little outside of the box.

The story behind the video ended up being surrounded by this idea that Alysia and I were ghosts. When we dance and use movement it would set off the alarms in the school. The video goes back and fourth between normal focus on us and this ghostly view of us so that the viewer hopefully can come up with the concept on their own.

We had fun being random and making this...hope you enjoy it! :)

Repression

Let me just explain this video a little bit. I made this video for my Dance and Technology class in New Zealand. I knew that I wanted something a little dark because I wanted to use music from the film Requiem for a Dream. In high school we did a dance to the movie's soundtrack and it was the most intense dance I've done.

It's amazing how music can have such an impact on how a dance or a movie plays out. It definitely sets the tone. The tone I wanted for this short video was about repressing ones thoughts to keep information out of the conscious awareness. This is why I entitled the project "Repression."

There are many parts of this video I love and there are also some I'd love to go back and fix, but overall I was pleased with how this one turned out. It was the second to the last project in the class and I definitely felt like I'd grown throughout the course. It was fun making the video cause I used dancers and nondancers. For this video although dancing is a component I wanted the movements to be very pedestrian and all about people with different disorders etc.

See if you can figure out what disorders each of the people in the film have!

Memory

Memory was the first video I had made in my Dance and Technology class. I wanted it to be kind of old fashioned looking and dreamlike. After working more with the video editing software and filming dancing more after this project I definitely would have changed a few things about it, but I was pretty proud for it being my first "dance video."

The story: Hopefully after watching this you'll be able to come up with some sort of conclusion on your own as to what the story is about. It's pretty basic. There's a girl and a guy that used to be together blah blah blah and she's just studying in a place where they used to meet up, falls asleep and has a dream about them. The guys story is about the same...he's just walking to this gazebo in a park and has the same sort of flashbacks.
